  I could think of no way to thank you for the gift of perfect vision that you restored to me, but I felt compelled to at least try to express my gratitude in a letter.

  At the age of 10, I began wearing eyeglasses for what was thought to be short term myopia. My doctor assured me that I would wear glasses for only two or three years.
